The Delphi – Creativity, Culture, and Hospitality

In Ancient Greece, Delphi was considered the center of the world. A few thousand years later, that essence now resides at 550 Flower Street: a staple of downtown Los Angeles’ silhouette. Once the headquarters of Superior Oil, and the focal point of the city’s early 2000s revitalization, our address is once again rewriting the script for creativity, culture, and hospitality. With its Modern-Style Architecture, the handiwork of famed architect Claud Beelman, The Delphi has been literal blueprint for LA Living, setting trends and turning heads of locals and visitors alike.

The Delphi is a boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, on th edge of the Jewelry and Financial Districts. The Delphi offers great views of the city. There are salads, sandwiches, main dishes for dinner like chicken pie, and actual sweet pies for dessert, too — hopefully spinning under lights in a glass case. There’s coffee at breakfast, milkshakes for every hour, and cocktails come calling at night. While the space itself retains some serious retro ambience, this is ultimately a hotel restaurant catering to modern diners from all over the world. There are booths, as well as standalone two-tops and bar seating set beneath a lit marquee bearing the Denae’s name and logo. There are no chipped Formica countertops, but the mugs are sturdy and hours run daily from 6:30 a.m. to midnight.

The drinks – which range from tangy to savory to salty. The drinks have unique, fun names, from the delicious Cereal Killa (Ford’s gin, fruity pebbles, Dolin vermouth, Aperol and cereal dust) to Figgy With It (Evan Williams Black Label Bourbon, Kleiner feigling, amero avenra and lemon). The bartenders are also willing to create whatever you might be craving based on your taste palate. An extensive wine menu includes a number of options from the Pacific Coast.

As for the hotel itself, The Delphi is staying open as ongoing renovations bring the entire building up to date – although any refresh to the rooms themselves would only be improving upon perfection. The cozy beds, breathtaking views and walk-in showers make staying at the Delphi feel like the epitome of L.A. comfort and style – and it’s at a reasonable price point that makes it the perfect suggestion for visiting guests. The hotel also has a happening scene at the lounge next door to the diner, with jazz playing every Thursday night, a live DJ on Saturday afternoons and a hip-hop Brunch on Saturday mornings.
